SmartAPPetite was created by researchers at The University of Western Ontario, Brescia University College, Wilfrid Laurier University, and the London Training Centre. We designed this app to make it easier for you to eat healthy, by providing useful information (tips, recipes, vendor info) on local foods available in Ontario, Canada.
App Features include:
TIPS: App users will receive a variety of food tips developed with the guidance of registered dietitians, using research-based evidence. Tips may focus on the nutritional value, health benefits, or seasonal availability of a specific food, or may offer general information on healthier food-related habits. All tips come with links to external websites with more information.
The app uses your feedback to help determine which tips are most useful for you and to constantly improve your experience with the app. Your responses to a brief survey and ratings of each tip can help us to better match messages to your diet-related goals, restrictions, and preferences. You can also select how often and what times of the day you want to receive messages.
RECIPES: Food tips come with recipes that include the local food item featured in the tip, making it easier for the user to incorporate local food into their meals.
VENDORS: Food tips also list names of local vendors who sell the featured food item, and provide further information such as contact details, a map and directions on how to get to the vendor from your current location. The goal of this feature is to introduce app users to some of the smaller-scale, locally-owned businesses in their region (not national and international chain stores), and therefore the featured vendors may not always be the very closest vendor to you. By enabling location-based messages we can better identify local food vendors near you!
